Evren secures $600 million for 1 GW FDRE hybrid projects

Evren, a platform launched by Brookfield in India as a joint venture with Axis Energy, has secured approximately $600 million to develop its Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) hybrid project in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. The 1 GW project combines solar, wind, and battery energy storage to supply on-demand renewable power and is among the first large-scale integrated FDRE financings in India. A consortium of lenders including SMBC, Standard Chartered Bank, MUFG, DBS Bank, Crédit Agricole CIB, and BNP Paribas is financing the project. Backed by a PPA with National Thermal Power Corporation, it will supply 300 MW contracted capacity, generate about 2,400 GWh annually, and displace over 1.5 million tonnes of CO₂ each year, with commissioning planned in 2027.

Kairos Power begins Hermes 2 build, targets first non-LWR power by 2030

Kairos Power has broken ground on its Hermes 2 demonstration plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, after securing test reactor construction permits from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in November 2024. The project is expected to start operations by 2030 and could become the first NRC-licensed non–light water reactor to generate electricity. The revised configuration targets 50 MWe output following a power purchase agreement involving the Tennessee Valley Authority and Google. The project uses a factory-based construction model and builds on the earlier Hermes unit to support future commercial deployment.

NLC India secures EUR 100 million KfW loan for solar and BESS

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) signed a EUR 100 million loan agreement with KfW on April 20, 2026, to support solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The funding will expand renewable capacity and improve grid reliability while diversifying the company’s borrowing mix. NLCIL is targeting around 8 GW of renewable capacity by 2028 and 10 GW by 2030, with plans to reach about 2 GW by the end of the financial year. The company has also formed a joint venture with the Rajasthan government to add 2 GW of renewable capacity.

POWERGRID forms Kenya SPV for transmission PPP project

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has incorporated Mwanga Transmission Company Limited in Kenya for the Kenya Transmission Public-Private Partnership project. The SPV is jointly promoted with Africa50, which holds a 60% stake, while POWERGRID holds 40%. The project follows an agreement with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited and aims to strengthen transmission infrastructure and grid stability. It also expands POWERGRID’s international presence in the African power sector.

Adani Green commissions 292 MW Khavda solar project

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has operationalised a 292 MW solar power project in Khavda, Gujarat, through its subsidiary Adani Green Energy Twenty Six A Limited. Power generation is scheduled to begin from April 23, 2026. Following this addition, AGEL’s total operational renewable capacity has reached 19,585.8 MW, with BESS capacity at 1,376 MWh. The Khavda region remains central to the company’s expansion strategy.

Enviro Infra acquires Bihar BESS SPV with phased stake buy

Enviro Infra Engineers Limited (EIEL), through EIE Renewables Private Limited, has entered into an agreement to acquire PRA Bihar Bess Private Limited, a SPV developing a 37.5 MW / 150 MWh BESS project in Bihar. The company has acquired an initial 49% stake, with the remaining 51% to be acquired within 60 days after COD. The project operates under a 12-year BESPA with BSPHCL, NBPDCL, and SBPDCL at a tariff of Rs 4,44,000 per MW per month, with VGF support of up to Rs 27 lakh per MWh. The acquisition follows earlier BESS-related EPC orders worth Rs 1,481 crore secured in March 2026.

NHPC advances Subansiri Lower project with Unit 4 tests

The 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project has initiated Short Circuit Characteristic and Open Circuit Characteristic tests for the 250 MW Unit 4 on April 21–22, 2026. Spiral casing concreting has also begun for Unit 7. NHPC officials reviewed construction progress and readiness of Units 5 to 8 during a site visit. The project remains a key run-of-river hydroelectric development supporting grid balancing.

Suzlon unveils ‘Blue Sky’ turbine platform for Europe

Suzlon Energy Limited has launched its ‘Blue Sky’ wind turbine platform at the WindEurope Annual Event 2026 in Madrid. The platform includes the S175 (5.0 MW) for low wind regimes and the S163 (6.3 MW) for moderate to high wind conditions, with tip heights up to 250 metres. The platform aligns with Europe’s repowering cycle and evolving grid requirements. Suzlon reported about 21.5 GW global installed capacity across 17 countries as of end-2025.

ABCI Infra wins CESC’s 40 MW / 80 MWh BESS project in Kolkata

ABCI Infrastructures has secured a contract from CESC to develop a 40 MW / 80 MWh standalone BESS at the New Cossipore generating station. The project was awarded at a tariff of Rs 326,000 per MW per month under a 12-year agreement. The scope includes full EPC and O&M, with system requirements including two cycles per day, 90% round-trip efficiency, and over 95% availability. The project will be commissioned within 18 months and transferred to CESC after 12 years for Rs 1.

Mitarsh Energy wins L1 bid for NTPC’s Nokhra solar O&M projects

Mitarsh Energy Private Limited has secured L1 status for NTPC’s 300 MW AC / 450 MW DC Nokhra Solar Project O&M tender. The company also won additional NTPC projects including a 150 MW AC Devikot project and a 90 MW AC project. The scope includes comprehensive O&M services under the NTPC Green Energy Limited framework. With this award, Mitarsh Energy’s managed portfolio exceeds 14 GWp.

Zodiac Energy wins 6 MWp solar plus BESS order in Zambia

Zodiac Energy Limited has received a Letter of Intent for a 6 MWp DC / 5 MW AC solar PV project with a 1 MWh BESS in Lusaka, Zambia. The contract is valued at USD 3,288,000, equivalent to about Rs 30.85 crore. The project will be executed on a Delivery at Place basis, covering full EPC scope and logistics. It is expected to be completed within around nine months and will contribute to revenue during execution.
