Adani Green Energy Limited added 5,051 MW of renewable energy capacity in FY2025-26, taking its total operational portfolio to 19.3 GW. The company claims this is the highest greenfield annual capacity addition by any company globally in a single year, outside China.
The full-year addition comprises 3,409 MW of solar, 686 MW of wind, and 956 MW of wind-solar hybrid capacity. To close out the financial year, the company commercially operationalized 360.5 MW of renewable projects and 1,376 MWh of battery energy storage systems with effect from April 1, 2026. The renewable additions cover 137.5 MW solar at Bandha, Rajasthan, and 223 MW of solar and wind at Khavda, Gujarat. The BESS capacity of 1,376 MWh, on a dispatchable basis, is split between two SPVs at Khavda and was commissioned within eight months of starting work at the site.
The bulk of the year’s capacity addition was concentrated at Khavda, where AGEL is developing what it describes as the world’s largest renewable energy plant, targeting 30 GW by 2029 across 538 square kilometres. Cumulative installed capacity at Khavda now stands at 9,413 MW. The project uses bifacial solar modules with trackers, 5.2 MW onshore wind turbines, and waterless robotic cleaning systems.
Executive Director Sagar Adani said the 5 GW addition keeps the company on track toward its 50 GW target by 2030. AGEL estimates its 19.3 GW operational portfolio will result in an annual carbon offset of 36 million tonnes, with the FY26 additions alone expected to offset around 10 million tonnes per year.
The company was ranked first in Energy Intelligence’s Global Top 100 Green Utilities list for 2025 and retained its position as India’s top sustainability performer in the power sector for a second consecutive year under NSE Sustainability Ratings and Analytics.
