NTPC approves Rs 8,996 crore for BESS and Meja Stage-II
NTPC Limited approved two investment proposals on March 28, 2026, totalling Rs 8,995.57 crore across battery energy storage and thermal expansion. This includes Rs 5,821.90 crore for a 4.70 GWh BESS programme and Rs 3,173.67 crore equity infusion into Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited (MUNPL). The Meja Stage-II project will add 2,400 MW through three 800 MW units, with NTPC’s total equity commitment in MUNPL rising to Rs 5,000 crore. The BESS initiative supports replacement of diesel generator sets and aligns with NTPC’s 22 GWh storage target by 2032.
Coal India wins 750 MWh BESS project in Telangana
Coal India Limited received a Letter of Award from Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited for a 750 MWh BESS project at Choutuppal. The project has a capacity of 187.5 MW with four hours of storage and is valued at Rs 1,057.09 crore. It has been awarded at a tariff of Rs 3.14 lakh per MW per month with an 18-month implementation timeline. The award adds to Coal India’s expanding presence in energy storage.
MNRE extends PM KUSUM project deadline to March 2027
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy extended the deadline for PM KUSUM projects to March 31, 2027. The extension applies to projects with PPAs or NTPs issued on or before December 31, 2025. The decision addresses financing constraints faced by developers due to tight timelines. The Ministry is also working with the Department of Expenditure to transition liabilities into PM KUSUM 2.0.
Thermax subsidiary wins Rs 1,600 crore boiler order
Thermax Limited subsidiary TBWES secured a boiler package order worth about Rs 1,600 crore. The contract is for a 1×800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Central India. It includes manufacturing, supply, installation supervision, and performance testing. Execution will follow defined project milestones.
Enviro Infra, Solarworld, GR Infraprojects secure NTPC BESS orders
NTPC Limited awarded BESS EPC contracts exceeding Rs 1,391 crore across five thermal stations. Enviro Infra Engineers Limited secured Rs 664.33 crore, Solarworld Energy Solutions Limited received Rs 314.26 crore, and G R Infraprojects Limited got Rs 413.37 crore. The projects include EPC supply, services, and long-term maintenance. Execution timelines range from 15 to 18 months.
NHPC signs agreement for Uri-II, Dulhasti-II hydro projects
NHPC Limited signed an implementation agreement with JKSPDCL for 240 MW Uri-I Stage-II and 260 MW Dulhasti Stage-II projects. The projects will be developed on a BOOT basis for 40 years. NHPC had earlier approved Rs 5,702 crore investment for these projects. The agreement enables project execution to move forward.
Power Ministry clears three inter-state transmission schemes under TBCB
Ministry of Power approved three inter-state transmission schemes under the TBCB route. The projects cover Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh with timelines up to 2029. The schemes include network expansion for pumped storage, a 765 kV eastern corridor, and hydro-linked evacuation systems. PFCCL and RECPDCL have been appointed as bid process coordinators.
NTPC Green commissions 180 MW solar capacity at Bhadla, Khavda
NTPC Green Energy Limited commissioned 180 MW solar capacity across Bhadla and Khavda projects. This includes 75 MW at Bhadla and 105 MW at Khavda. The group’s total installed capacity increased to 9,907.68 MW. NTPC Group capacity reached 88,889 MW.
Coal India, DVC form JV to enter power generation
Coal India Limited and Damodar Valley Corporation incorporated DVC CIL Power Private Limited on March 27, 2026. Both hold 50% equity in the venture. The JV will undertake power generation, transmission, and related infrastructure activities. Coal India’s equity contribution is pegged at Rs 3,132.96 crore.
Powergrid commissions Arun-3 evacuation line
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited commissioned the Indian portion of the Arun-3 evacuation system. The asset has a COD of September 3, 2023, approved by CERC. The project includes a 400 kV line and associated bays. CERC approved capital cost at Rs 13,006.51 lakh and annual charges of Rs 1,350.68 lakh for 2023-24.
PFC transfers Wagdari transmission SPV to KCC Buildcon
Power Finance Corporation Limited transferred Wagdari Transmission Limited to KCC Buildcon Private Limited. The transfer was completed on March 27, 2026, for Rs 4,41,10,826. The project involves a 400/220 kV AIS substation in Solapur. The transaction followed a TBCB process and is not a related party transaction.
Schneider Infra raises Vadodara switchgear plant capex to Rs 156.4 crore
Schneider Electric Infrastructure Limited increased capex for its Vadodara plant to Rs 156.4 crore. The expansion will raise capacity from 8,000 to 14,000 panels. The project will be completed by FY 2026-27. Funding will come from internal accruals and borrowings.
Saatvik Solar bags Rs 666.7 crore domestic orders
Saatvik Solar Industries Private Limited secured three domestic orders totalling Rs 666.74 crore. The largest order worth Rs 638.26 crore is for Solar Cell G12 R Type supply. Two additional orders of Rs 14 crore and Rs 14.48 crore cover PV module supply. All contracts are scheduled for completion by March 2027.
KP Energy wins 91.4 MW hybrid project order from JK Paper
K P Energy Limited received a LoA from JK Paper Limited for a 91.4 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Gujarat. The project will be executed on a turnkey basis. It includes EPC, evacuation infrastructure, and O&M services. The order strengthens the company’s hybrid portfolio.
Quality Power arm secures Rs 152 crore BESS order
Quality Power Electrical Equipments Limited subsidiary Endoks Energi secured a BESS order worth Rs 152 crore. The contract includes a provision to scale up to Rs 292 crore. The project is expected to be completed by December 2027. The awarding entity remains undisclosed.
Sprng Power gets approval for transmission line for 250 MW solar project
Sprng Power Earth Private Limited received approval under Section 164 for a 220 kV transmission line in Gujarat. The line will connect a 250 MW solar project to the grid. The approval is valid for 25 years. No objections were received during public consultation.
AERB clears excavation for Mahi Banswara nuclear project Units 1 and 2
Atomic Energy Regulatory Board approved excavation for Units 1 and 2 of the Mahi Banswara project. The units are based on 700 MWe PHWR design. The project has a total planned capacity of 2,800 MW. The first unit is targeted for commissioning in 2031.
NHPC achieves HRT breakthrough at Teesta-VI project
NHPC Limited completed HRT breakthrough for Teesta-VI on March 27, 2026. The project has a capacity of 500 MW. It includes two 13.76 km tunnels and an underground powerhouse. The project is expected to generate 2,400 MU annually.
Torrent Power acquires TU47 to expand thermal portfolio
Torrent Power Limited acquired 100% equity of Torrent Urja 47 Private Limited for Rs 5,00,000. TU47 is a non-operating entity with nil turnover. The acquisition is a related party transaction executed at arm’s length. It will serve as a vehicle for thermal expansion.
Bhageria unit commissions 7 MW solar plant in Maharashtra
Bhageria Industries Limited subsidiary RCPL commissioned a 7 MW solar plant in Ahilyanagar district. The project is part of a 32 MW capacity under MSKVV 2.0. The plant is grid-connected with 3.5 MW each on Bay-I and Bay-II. Commissioning took place on March 27, 2026.
SJVN’s Rampur HPS sets new generation record
SJVN Limited recorded 2,098.03 million units at its 412 MW Rampur station on March 26, 2026. This surpasses its previous record from FY 2019-20. The station had earlier met its design energy target of 1,878 million units on December 8, 2025. The milestone adds to recent generation achievements across SJVN assets.
