Dutch state-owned transmission system operator TenneT has signed a groundbreaking time-bound connection and transmission agreement with GIGA Storage, marking the first agreement of its kind in the Netherlands. This contract sets a precedent for future energy storage projects, aiming to enhance the efficiency of the limited space on the electricity grid.
Under the contract, GIGA Storage will be allowed to draw electricity from the grid or supply it back at least 85% of the time, optimizing grid usage.
This deal, developed under the National Grid Congestion Action Programme, will facilitate the integration of GIGA Storage’s 300 MW GIGA Leopard battery project, which has a storage capacity of up to 1200 MWh, into the electricity grid in Delfzijl. The agreement will come into effect on 1 October 2025, enhancing grid flexibility and supporting the country’s energy transition.
