Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said the core challenge of the global energy transition is building infrastructure that is resilient, scalable, and ready for long-term investment. Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, he outlined India’s approach to combining rapid capacity addition with system resilience.

At the session Resilient Infrastructure for Growth, the Union Minister said India has achieved 267 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity as of December 2025 and remains on track to meet its 2030 targets. He attributed this progress to supportive policies, domestic manufacturing, grid modernisation, deployment of energy storage, and emerging frameworks for geothermal and nuclear energy. He also stressed the importance of patient capital, blended finance, and closer coordination among governments, private players, and multilateral development banks.

In a separate keynote address at the roundtable Delivering Sustainability at Scale: Pathways for Global Transformation, the Union Minister said sustainability has become central to economic growth and competitiveness. He noted that the key question for the current decade is how sustainability can be delivered at scale and speed while strengthening economic outcomes.

Reiterating India’s energy transition philosophy, the Union Minister confirmed the country’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. He said India views sustainability as a structural transformation of the economy rather than a purely technological shift and continues to prioritise renewables as a reliable and affordable growth pathway.

On the sidelines of WEF 2026, the Union Minister held multiple bilateral meetings focused on clean energy cooperation and investment. In discussions with H.E. Dr. Said Mohammed Ahmed Al Saqri, Economic Advisor at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Oman, areas explored included joint manufacturing and exports of solar modules, electrolysers and green hydrogen, renewable-powered hydrogen hubs, integrated energy projects, and port-based export infrastructure. The talks also referenced cooperation under the India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the International Solar Alliance, and the One Sun One World One Grid initiative.

He also met H.E. Subaih Abdul Aziz Al-Mukhaizeem, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Kuwait, discussing investment opportunities in India’s renewable energy sector.

Engagements with global investors included discussions with Charles Emond, President and CEO, and Sarah Bouchard, Chief Operating Officer of La Caisse, on scaling long-term climate and clean energy investments in India. The Union Minister encouraged alignment with India’s clean energy goals, referencing La Caisse’s stated USD 400 billion climate investment commitment by 2030. He also met Juvencio Maeztu, CEO and President of Ingka Group, who expressed interest in expanding its presence in India’s solar, wind, and hybrid energy segments.

During the Annual Meeting, the Union Minister attended the inauguration of the India Pavilion at WEF Davos alongside other Union Ministers and Chief Ministers. He also launched a Green Investment Handbook titled The India Story. The Pavilion highlighted India’s policy stability, manufacturing capabilities, renewable energy ecosystem, and long-term growth vision under Viksit Bharat 2047.
