Larsen & Toubro’s Heavy Engineering division has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Asia arm of US-based Holtec International to jointly provide design and build solutions for heat transfer equipment used in nuclear and thermal power plants.
The new agreement expands the existing partnership between L&T and Holtec, which already collaborate on the global deployment of the Holtec-designed SMR-300 small modular reactor. This partnership is supported by the US Department of Energy’s 810 Authorization, enabling L&T to participate in nuclear technology projects with American entities.
Under the MoU, L&T’s manufacturing expertise will be combined with Holtec’s engineering and design capabilities to deliver advanced heat transfer systems for power plant islands and balance-of-plant operations. The companies aim to develop reliable and efficient technologies to improve thermal performance and operational resilience in power generation facilities.
Anil Parab, Whole-time Director and Senior Executive Vice President (Heavy Engineering & CE & IPDD) at L&T, said the collaboration reflects the growing importance of nuclear energy in global energy security. He noted that more than 30 countries have committed to tripling nuclear power capacity since the COVID-19 pandemic, underscoring the need for efficient and sustainable energy systems.
