MNRE approves 2,000 MWh battery storage project in Rajasthan

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has approved Rajasthan’s proposal to set up a 2,000 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) with a four-hour discharge cycle. The project is designed to support the state’s high solar generation and growing evening power demand.

The Energy Department had invited bids for the project to meet non-solar and peak-hour requirements. It will add to the 4,000 MWh of BESS capacity already under development across two projects.

The four-hour storage cycle will enable solar power from grid-scale and rooftop systems to be stored and supplied during morning and evening hours, reducing reliance on costly power exchanges.
