The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has requested all power sector utilities to submit inputs on improving equipment and installation quality.
This follows a meeting on 15 July 2025 chaired by the Advisor to the Prime Minister, where the importance of monitoring, enforcement, and use of modern technology, including drones, was highlighted.
CEA oversees standards for power plants, transmission lines, and grid systems. It ensures equipment meets national or international norms and works with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to enforce quality rules for critical power equipment. A new Standardisation Cell has also been set up to promote Indian Standards, identify emerging technologies, and strengthen compliance.
All generation, transmission, and distribution utilities are asked to share three types of information: problems faced with equipment, steps taken to improve quality, and suggestions for better safety and adoption of new technologies. Responses are requested within 15 days.
