Author: PPD Team Date: July 11, 2025

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has restarted coal production at its legacy PB Project in Jharkhand. This is the first operational project under the mine developer and operator (MDO) model in the CIL ecosystem.

The PB Project has been awarded to Eagle Infra India Limited for a 25-year term. It is expected to produce 52 million tonnes of coal during its lifecycle. Most of this will be coking coal, a key input for the steel and infrastructure sectors.

The project operates on a revenue-sharing model. BCCL will receive 6 per cent of the gross revenue generated. This model aligns with broader efforts to bring efficiency and private participation into coal mining.

Shri Samiran Dutta, Chairman and Managing Director of BCCL, expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Coal, Coal India Limited, and other stakeholders. He reaffirmed BCCL’s commitment to national priorities, including Mission Coking Coal, reducing coal imports, and advancing sustainable mining practices.
