The Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase I is close to completion in four states, with 20 GW of the planned 24 GW renewable energy capacity already commissioned. The remaining 4 GW is expected to be completed soon.
GEC Phase I was launched to improve grid infrastructure for integrating large-scale renewable energy. It spans eight states: Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.
The project includes 9,767 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 22,689 MVA of substation capacity. These are being developed by the respective state transmission utilities (STUs).
The total cost of the project is Rs 101.41 billion. It is financed through 40 percent Central Financial Assistance (CFA) from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), amounting to Rs 40.56 billion. Another 40 percent comes as a loan from KfW Germany (EUR 500 million), and the remaining 20 percent is funded by the STUs as equity.
