The Central Government laid the foundation stone for two thermal power projects in Chhattisgarh on March 30, 2025.
The 800 MW Sipat Advance Ultra Super Critical (AUSC) Thermal Power Project Stage-III will be set up within the existing Sipat Power Plant premises in the Bilaspur district, which currently has Stage-I (3×660 MW) and Stage-II (2×500 MW). The project, estimated at Rs 97.9 billion, is a collaboration between NTPC Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), and the Indira Gandhi Centre of Atomic Research (IGCAR).
The 1,320 MW Rajiv Gandhi (Korba West) Thermal Power Plant will be developed by Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) in the Korba district. The project will have two units of 660 MW each, based on supercritical technology, with an investment of Rs 158 billion. It is expected to become operational by 2028 and be commissioned by 2029-30.
