CDIL Semiconductors has introduced India’s first domestically manufactured solar bypass diodes, designed to enhance solar panel efficiency and longevity. These diodes, produced at CDIL’s Mohali facility in Punjab, aim to reduce reliance on imports while improving performance in India’s extreme weather conditions.
The diodes feature a low forward voltage drop and high thermal stability, making them a cost-effective alternative to imported components. Manufactured using advanced automation techniques, they are expected to support India’s growing solar infrastructure.
With this launch, CDIL has expanded its annual manufacturing capacity by 25 million units, bringing it to 625 million units. The company has been scaling its semiconductor production, particularly in Silicon Carbide technology, to meet rising demand in India’s energy and industrial sectors.
Prithvideep Singh, General Manager of CDIL Semiconductors, stated that the launch is a significant step toward India’s energy self-reliance, strengthening the country’s renewable energy ecosystem and global competitiveness in clean energy solutions.

Author: PPD Team Date: February 27, 2025 The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has proposed a renewable energy financing obligation (REEFO) to ensure dedicated financial support for India’s renewable energy sector. Similar to Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs) for discoms, REEFO would require financial institutions to allocate a portion of their lending to renewable energy projects. This initiative aims to secure consistent and affordable capital for solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects while de-risking…
Author: PPD Team Date: November 4, 2024 The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has proposed adding solar photovoltaic (PV) cells to its Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), with implementation expected by April 2026. This new category, termed “ALMM List-II,” would mandate that all ALMM-compliant solar projects source cells from certified domestic manufacturers. Experts caution that this move could increase tariffs by 40-50 paise per unit, affecting project costs, timelines, and India’s…
