PacificLight Power has secured approval from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) to construct a 600 MW hydrogen-ready combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facility on Jurong Island. Operations are slated to begin in January 2029.
This facility will be Singapore’s largest single H-class CCGT and will feature a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS). The greenfield site allows for future expansion, including the addition of a second unit and the potential integration of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology.
The plant is designed for long-term decarbonization, with an initial capability to use at least 30% hydrogen, transitioning to 100% hydrogen in the future. It is expected to enhance energy security, improve grid stability, and support Singapore’s low-carbon transition.
The new plant will complement PacificLight Power’s existing 830 MW CCGT plant, operational since 2014, and a 100 MW Fast Start project, expected to be operational by Q2 2025.
