E2E Energy Solutions has partnered with Novus Earth to develop Latitude 53 Hinton, a geothermal energy project near Hinton, Alberta, set to begin construction in early 2025.
This two-phase initiative will utilize geothermal energy to support sustainable agriculture and produce clean electricity, bolstering Alberta’s renewable energy landscape.
The first phase focuses on supplying geothermal heat for year-round strawberry cultivation in a 20-acre greenhouse, offering up to 50 gigajoules of heat per hour through E2E’s technology.
The second phase will employ E2E’s enhanced geothermal reservoir recovery system (EGRRS) to generate 10 MW of zero-emission electricity by repurposing old oil and gas infrastructure.
This project, funded in part by the Canadian government and backed by Ormat Technologies, is expected to stimulate job creation and economic growth in Hinton and West Yellowhead.
Novus Earth President Jeff Mesner emphasized the partnership’s role in bringing advanced geothermal technology to Alberta, while E2E CEO Nick Daprocida highlighted its potential for stable, low-cost energy solutions for local agriculture.
