Canadian Solar’s subsidiary Recurrent Energy has signed two 20-year tolling agreements with Arizona Public Service Company (APS), set to boost Arizona’s renewable energy capacity by 2026.
The agreements cover the Desert Bloom Storage (600MWh) and Papago Solar (150MWac) projects, both located in Maricopa County, with construction starting in 2025 and operations slated for 2026.
These projects join last year’s 20-year tolling agreement for the 1,200MWh Papago Storage project, which will become Arizona’s largest standalone energy storage facility upon its 2025 completion.
Combined, the projects are designed to deliver enough energy storage to power approximately 72,000 homes for four hours and enough solar power to supply 24,000 homes annually.
Arizona currently has 1GW of energy storage capacity, with renewables comprising 12% of its electricity mix. To support growing demand, Arizona aims to add 7.6GW of utility-scale solar, 1.7GW of wind, and 5.9GW of battery storage by 2030, projected to supply clean energy to over five million homes.
APS resource management VP Brian Cole emphasized the importance of reliable and cost-effective clean electricity in meeting the state’s increasing energy needs.
