GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd, a key entity in Essar’s green mobility initiative, plans to expand its fleet by adding 1,000 Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)-powered trucks by March 2025. This move aligns with India’s strategy to decarbonise the logistics sector and reduce emissions in its journey towards net zero by 2070. GreenLine’s CEO, Anand Mimani, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable logistics, aiming to meet the rising demand for eco-friendly solutions as corporations increasingly prioritize Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
GreenLine currently operates over 500 LNG-powered trucks and serves major clients including Vedanta Group, JSW Steel & Cement, Tata Steel, Hindustan Zinc, Jindal Steel and Power, JK Lakshmi Cement, AMNS, Hindalco, Dalmia Cement, UltraTech Cement, GHCL, Reliance, Shell, Nestle, Castrol, and Sterlite Copper. In alignment with the Indian government’s draft policy to convert one-third of long-haul trucks to LNG by 2030, the company’s expansion is timely.
GreenLine’s 55-tonne LNG trucks have a 40-tonne payload capacity and can travel up to 1,200 km on a single tank. The company’s operations have resulted in a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions over the past two years, reducing emissions by 6,722 tonnes compared to traditional diesel vehicles.
The company’s trucks are equipped with six Level 1 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and telematics for real-time performance monitoring and cargo management. GreenLine also provides comprehensive training programs for its drivers to enhance skills and maximize the efficiency of LNG technology.
Looking ahead, GreenLine plans to diversify its fleet further by integrating Electric Vehicles (EVs) for short-haul transport. This expansion is part of its broader strategy to offer a comprehensive range of sustainable transport options and reduce its carbon footprint. Mimani highlighted the goal of complementing LNG initiatives with EVs to provide a robust suite of eco-friendly solutions that cater to the varied needs of its clients.
