Deveritec and Wirepas launch new NIC for Wirepas 5G Mesh in Europe
Deveritec GmbH and Wirepas have unveiled a new Network Interface Card (NIC) tailored for the Wirepas 5G Mesh implementation of the non-cellular 5G standard, NR+. The NIC, developed using Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF9151 chip, is designed for smart electricity meters and aims to accelerate Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) development using the NR+ standard.
This collaboration marks a push towards deploying NR+ technology in smart meters across Europe, leveraging the ultra-resilient RF mesh networking capabilities of NR+. Wirepas has already deployed approximately 10 million devices, primarily smart meters in Northern Europe and India, using its mesh software technology. The introduction of NR+ addresses the need for reliable RF mesh networks in areas where unlicensed spectrums are unsuitable for large-scale networks.
The partnership provides utilities and AMI solution providers with a customizable and future-proof NIC solution, facilitating long-range RF capabilities to meet the demand for higher data rates. Deveritec offers adaptable NIC layouts for various meter designs, supporting initial pilot and proof-of-concept stages, while Wirepas provides network management tools for seamless scaling from pilot phases to large-scale implementation.
