The system will utilize Wärtsilä’s advanced Quantum High Energy storage technology, designed to offer crucial grid services such as frequency control ancillary services, fast frequency response, and energy arbitrage. These services will enhance grid flexibility and stability. Additionally, the GEMS Digital Energy Platform will be integrated for optimized energy management and intelligent power control.

Daniel Kim, Amp Energy Australia’s president, noted that Bungama BESS Stage 1 marks a key milestone in their multi-gigawatt portfolio of energy storage projects. Andrew Tang, Wärtsilä Energy’s vice president for energy storage and optimization, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the project’s role in advancing South Australia’s transition towards 100% renewable energy by 2027.

In June 2024, Wärtsilä introduced the Wärtsilä connector module to streamline the construction, installation, and commissioning of its 18V50SG engine power plants.
