Mitsubishi Power has announced the completion of the eighth and final M701JAC gas turbine unit at the 5.3 GW combined cycle power plant in Rayong, Thailand. The project, a joint venture between Gulf Energy Development and Mitsui & Co., began in 2018 and has established two gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) plants in Chonburi and Rayong.

Each plant features four M701JAC gas turbines, steam turbines, and heat recovery steam generators. By providing a stable power source, the plant boosts Thailand’s energy security and economic growth. As of 1 October 2024, the first seven units logged over 100,000 operating hours, demonstrating their reliability.

Mitsubishi Power will manage the plants under a long-term service agreement (LTSA), supported by a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand. This project marks the first deployment of Mitsubishi’s J-Series air-cooled gas turbines in Southeast Asia and is a milestone in their global portfolio.
