41 bids received for 11 coal blocks under 12th round of commercial auction

The Ministry of Coal opened bids for the 12th round of commercial coal block auctions on June 16, 2025. Out of 22 coal blocks offered (excluding six underground blocks), bids were received for 11 blocks.

A total of 41 bids were submitted, both online and offline. These included 38 bids for 8 coal blocks under the 12th round and 3 bids for 3 blocks under the second attempt of the 11th round.

Phutamura block saw the highest interest, receiving 13 bids. Chitarpur (Revised) and Cholapathar followed with 6 bids each. Tambia South and Patal East (Western Part) received only 1 bid each.

Here is the block-wise summary of bids received:

  • Phutamura – 13 bids (Non-Coking)

  • Chitarpur (Revised) – 6 bids (Non-Coking)

  • Cholapathar – 6 bids (Non-Coking)

  • Mahuagarhi – 4 bids (Non-Coking)

  • West of Tubed – 5 bids (Non-Coking)

  • Mandakini B – 2 bids (Non-Coking)

  • Patal East (Western Part) – 1 bid (Non-Coking)

  • Tambia South – 1 bid (Coking)

  • Jawardaha South – 1 bid (Non-Coking)

  • Margo East – 1 bid (Non-Coking)

  • Margo West – 1 bid (Non-Coking)

A total of 27 companies submitted bids, including over 10 new participants. Companies such as Damodar Valley Corporation (4 bids), Amalgam Steel and Power Ltd (3 bids), and Jharkhand Exploration and Mining Corporation Ltd (3 bids) were among the key participants.

The bids will now be evaluated by a technical committee. Bidders who qualify will participate in the electronic auction on the MSTC platform.
