Yunneng Wind Power completes foundation installation at 640MW Yunlin offshore wind project
Yunneng Wind Power, a subsidiary of Skyborn Renewables, has successfully installed all 80 foundations at the 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind project in Taiwan, marking a significant milestone toward the project’s full completion by the end of 2024. This achievement keeps the Yunlin offshore wind farm on track, enhancing Taiwan’s renewable energy capacity.
Significant progress has been made, with 68 turbines already installed and 52 of them actively supplying clean electricity to the grid. In addition, Yunneng Wind Power has installed 56 out of the 69 inner array grids and completed all 12 export cables.
The Yunlin offshore wind farm, located in the Taiwan Strait, spans an 82 km² area and will feature 80 turbines strategically placed between eight and 17 km off Taiwan’s west coast, with water depths ranging from seven to 35 meters. The energy generated will be integrated into the Taiwanese power grid through two onshore substations near Taixi and Sihu in Yunlin County, under two 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Taiwan Power Co.
Skyborn Renewables highlighted that Yunlin is the first project in the region to exceed its localization commitments. The project involved major Taiwanese manufacturers, Formosa Heavy Industries and CTCI Machinery, which supplied 40 monopiles and 40 transition pieces, demonstrating significant local engagement.
Upon completion, the Yunlin offshore wind farm will become Taiwan’s second-largest offshore wind farm, capable of generating enough clean energy to power over 600,000 Taiwanese households.
In August of the previous year, Skyborn Renewables, alongside partners Yunneng Wind Power, TotalEnergies, the Electricity Generating Public Company, and Sojitz, secured financing for the 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind farm, further cementing its role in Taiwan’s renewable energy landscape.
