Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) have submitted bids to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) for the erection of nuclear reactor systems and turbine systems for Units 5 and 6 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. NPCIL initiated the bidding process in April 2024.
The project scope involves the installation of key systems, including generators, condensers, seawater systems, polar and trestle cranes, as well as related equipment, accessories, piping, support structures, metal frameworks, painting, anti-corrosive coating, insulation, and testing.
This work spans multiple buildings and structures within the Kudankulam site and is projected for completion within 1,309 days at an estimated cost of Rs 11.38 billion.
The Kudankulam site, designed to deliver 6,000 MW, includes six reactors of 1,000 MW each. The first two units, KKNPP-1&2 (2×1000 MW), are operational, while Units 3 through 6 remain under construction.
