The World Bank has evinced interest in funding a Shore-Electric-Power-Supply Project aimed at decarbonising port operations at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), near Mumbai.
Bids for the project are expected to be invited by July 15, 2025. The estimated cost for this initial phase is Rs 1,000 million.
JNPT has drawn up a plan to roll out shore power infrastructure across all five terminals at the port. The full project, expected to cost Rs 5 billion, will allow container vessels to switch off diesel generators and plug into the onshore power grid while docked. This is expected to reduce emissions and improve air quality in and around the port area.
ITCOT Consultancy and Services Limited has been appointed as the project consultant.
