WEG, Kroma Energia sign contract for 250 MW solar project in Brazil
Brazilian electric-electronic equipment company WEG has secured a supply contract with energy trader Kroma Energia for the 250 MWp Arapuá solar energy complex in Vale do Jaguaribe, Jaguaruana. The project, valued at R$630 million, is expected to begin commercial operations in Q1 2026, with an estimated annual production of 537 GWh.
The contract covers the supply of PV modules, trackers, inverters, a power substation, and a connection bay with the local utility, along with complete engineering and electromechanical assembly. WEG’s managing director of automation, Manfred Peter Johann, emphasized the project’s importance for Brazil’s energy transition and sustainable development. Kroma Energia CEO Rodrigo Mello hailed the partnership as a key milestone in Brazil’s energy future.
Kroma Energia, founded in 2008, boasts a renewable energy portfolio exceeding 4.6 GW. As Brazil continues to diversify its energy mix due to challenges with hydropower generation, its solar market is projected by GlobalData to grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 11% by 2035.
