Vikram Solar Limited has announced a transition to a fully G12R-based solar module portfolio, standardising its product range around large-format, next-generation solar technology.

The company said the move reflects market trends that favour larger wafer formats, high-efficiency N-type cell architectures and bifacial module designs to improve energy yield and project economics. Under the new strategy, Vikram Solar will align its full product offering to the G12R platform, led by its HYPERSOL G12R module series.

Vikram Solar currently operates a manufacturing capacity of 9.5 GW across its facilities in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. This scale enables the company to implement portfolio-wide standardisation. Its G12R modules, including the HYPERSOL G12R (132HC) and HYPERSOL PRO G12R variants, deliver power output of up to 640 watts-peak (Wp) with module efficiencies reaching 23.69%. The rectangular G12R format is designed to improve container utilisation, ease handling and enhance overall project economics.

Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary stated that the shift is aimed at improving performance consistency while preparing the company’s manufacturing platform for future technology upgrades. The transition to a fully G12R-based lineup will be carried out in phases to ensure continuity for existing customers while optimising production processes.

Vikram Solar supplies modules to 39 countries and said the move strengthens India’s position in the global market for high-efficiency solar manufacturing. G12R solar cells in India represent an advanced rectangular wafer format increasingly used in Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) modules, with adoption rising across domestic manufacturers. Module production using G12R technology is already underway in India, while cell manufacturing capacity is in the process of scaling up.

The announcement reflects a broader industry shift. Premier Energies commenced commercial production of N-type G12R solar cells in 2025. INA Solar, part of Insolation Energy, plans to begin G12R TOPCon cell production from September 2026. Aatmanirbhar Solar started G12R module manufacturing in late 2025, while Alpex Solar is targeting trial production of G12R TOPCon cells by Q1 FY2027. GREW Solar launched 635 Wp G12R modules in late 2025.
