The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) of Vietnam is revising its Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII) to incorporate waste-to-energy projects.

The revision will integrate local government proposals, focusing on waste resource capacities and their impact on the national grid.

The updated plan is set to be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval by February 2025. This follows the approval of Decision No. 262/QD-TTg, which includes various renewable energy projects nationwide.

As of late 2024, the plan includes 34 waste-to-energy projects, with a combined capacity of 621.1 MW.
