Vestas has received a firm and unconditional order for the 1.1GW Inch Cape offshore wind project in Scotland from Inch Cape Offshore, a joint venture between ESB and Red Rock Renewables.

The contract includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of 72 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines.

The 150km² site in the North Sea, located 15km offshore Angus, will feature turbines installed on monopile and jacket foundations in water depths ranging from 34m to 64m. These turbines, each reaching 274m in height, will generate over 5 terawatt hours of renewable electricity annually.

The project aims to contribute to the UK’s energy security and support the government’s goal of decarbonising electricity by 2030.

Construction of the offshore substation’s topside and jacket foundation is underway, with key fabrication at the Smulders yard in Wallsend, UK. The installation of export cables is expected to begin in 2025.
