Venterra Group acquires Oceanscan Holdings to strengthen offshore wind services
UK-based offshore wind services provider Venterra Group has acquired Oceanscan Holdings, expanding its capabilities in the offshore energy market. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Oceanscan Holdings offers subsea and non-destructive testing equipment, geotechnical services, and specialized personnel.
The acquisition will enhance Venterra’s expertise through the integration of Oceanscan’s capabilities, asset base, and technical knowledge with Venterra’s existing companies, including Ordtek, Partrac, and Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions. Oceanscan Holdings, founded by Ken Hunter in 1989 and headquartered in Aberdeen, operates subsidiaries in Houston and Singapore, along with four UK subsidiaries: Oceanscan Limited, Hydrographic Personnel Resources (UK), Geoforce Technical Services, and Sercal Non-Destructive Test Equipment.
Oceanscan Limited specializes in hiring and calibrating hydrographic survey and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) sensors, as well as non-destructive testing equipment from its Aberdeen base.
Hydrographic Personnel Resources (UK), located in Inverurie, Scotland, provides specialist personnel for offshore renewable energy projects, particularly for construction and inspection campaigns.
Geoforce Technical Services, based in Suffolk, offers cone penetration testing services for offshore wind farm developments.
Sercal Non-Destructive Test Equipment, located in Birmingham, provides calibration services accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to the rail and power generation sectors.
Venterra Group CEO Ed Daniels emphasized that Oceanscan’s advanced sensing equipment and geotechnical expertise will enhance Venterra’s capacity to deliver comprehensive services for offshore wind development. Oceanscan CEO Derek Donaldson noted that joining Venterra will provide a larger platform for growth and broaden their international reach, combining their expertise with Venterra’s to offer robust geosciences and survey services.
In a previous move, Venterra acquired Cape Holland, a Netherlands-based offshore construction services provider, in August 2023.
