Uttar Pradesh is stepping up its solar push. The state plans to install 8 lakh rooftop solar units by March 2027 under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) is leading the effort.
For the current financial year, the target is 2.65 lakh units. To stay on track, the state is aiming for 22,000 installations every month.
The goal is to boost solar energy use in homes across the state. This move supports broader renewable energy targets and helps cut dependence on conventional power.
By March 2025, 10.73 lakh applications had already been submitted through the official portal. Vendor listing is ongoing. Over 2,500 vendors have been empaneled so far, and 1,800 have completed formal training.
The training is being conducted by UPNEDA in collaboration with the National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development and the Ministry of Skill Development.
To support vendors, the state is also offering access to loans and credit guarantee schemes. This is expected to improve capacity and ensure a smooth rollout across districts.
