US investigates Indian solar module imports over dumping charges

Author: PPD Team Date: July 24, 2025

The US has opened an anti-dumping and countervailing duty probe into solar module imports from India, Indonesia and Laos, Financial Express reported. The petition was filed by US manufacturers including First Solar, Qcells, Mission Solar and Talon PV.

It alleges unfair pricing and subsidies, citing dumping margins of 214 per cent for India.

India exported 4.4 GW of modules to the US in 2024, or 8 per cent of total imports. Exports remain steady at 300 MW per month. Firms like Waaree, with high US exposure, may be affected.

India has 74 GW of module and 25 GW of cell capacity, expected to reach 125 GW and 40 GW by 2030. Limited cell exports persist due to low capacity and higher prices.

US module capacity stands at 51 GW, but cell capacity lags at 2 GW. Imports are rising to fill this gap. Further duties may limit India’s long-term export potential.
