Trichy has commissioned its first solar power plant at Panjapur, a Rs 500 million project under the Smart Cities Mission.
Municipal administration minister K N Nehru inaugurated the plant to reduce the city’s annual electricity expense by Rs 90 million by feeding generated power into Tangedco’s grid.
The 9.6 MW solar plant spans 33 acres near the Trichy-Madurai national highway and features 29,328 panels mounted on concrete pillars. It includes four generation units, each with a capacity of 2.4 MW, capable of producing 43,000 electricity units daily.
High-tension cables will transmit The power generated to Tangedco’s E Pudur substation. It will offset electricity needs for eight drinking water collector wells and one sewage pumping station.
