Germany’s thyssenkrupp nucera has been awarded a Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) study for a 260 MW green hydrogen project in India, its first engagement in the country’s hydrogen sector.

The FEED contract has been signed with Juno Joule Green Energy Private Limited, which, along with SELECT Energy GmbH, is developing an integrated green hydrogen and green ammonia complex in India. The ammonia produced is intended to be RFNBO-compliant, meeting the European Union’s Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin standard, and is primarily targeted for export to Europe.

thyssenkrupp nucera’s scope under the FEED study is to develop an integration concept for Alkaline Water Electrolysis into the plant’s infrastructure. The renewable power feedstock for the electrolysis plant will be drawn from a combination of solar, wind, and hydropower sources.

If the FEED phase concludes satisfactorily, both parties intend to proceed toward an Engineering, Procurement, and Fabrication contract. A Final Investment Decision is targeted in FY2026-27.

For thyssenkrupp nucera, the contract represents its entry into India’s green hydrogen project pipeline. The company has installed over 10 GW of electrolysis capacity across more than 600 projects globally. It was listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in July 2023. Separately, in February 2026, the company had entered a partnership with GIZ, Germany’s international development agency, to support green hydrogen and Power-to-X market development in India.

Juno Joule’s CEO, Nagasharath Rayapati, said thyssenkrupp nucera’s experience in large-scale alkaline electrolysis systems would help develop the project to international standards of efficiency and bankability.
