India’s thermal power sector has fresh contracts awarded and competitive bidding underway this week across several major projects.  

ISGEC wins Rs 783 million contract for Talabira project

ISGEC Heavy Engineering Limited has secured a Rs 783 million contract for the stacker reclaimer package at the Talabira Thermal Power Project Phase I. The contract was tendered by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in November 2024.

The Talabira project, being implemented by NLC India Ltd at Tareikela near Jharsuguda, Odisha, involves three supercritical coal-fired units of 800 MW each, with a total project investment of Rs 160.73 billion. The awarded work is expected to be completed in 1,590 days.

Macawber Beekay wins Rs 2,862 million ash handling contract for Lara project

Macawber Beekay Private Limited has been awarded a Rs 2,862 million contract for the ash handling plant (AHP) system package for Stage II of the Lara Super Critical Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh. The tender was floated by BHEL in July 2024.

Being executed by NTPC Limited, the project consists of two 800 MW units, and the scope of work is scheduled for completion in 900 days.

HEC Infra quoted lowest for switchyard extension at Ukai

HEC Infra Projects Limited has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) by quoting Rs 141.36 million for the transformer bay extension and associated works for the flue gas desulphurization (FGD) system at Unit 6 of the Ukai Thermal Power Station in Gujarat. The tender was issued by Engineering Projects India Limited (EPIL) in January 2025.

The final award is yet to be confirmed. Shiralee Electricals and Mavin Switchgears and Control Pvt Ltd were the L2 and L3 bidders, quoting Rs 147.28 million and Rs 174.4 million, respectively. The project is expected to be completed in 300 days.

Ukai Thermal Power Station has an installed capacity of 1,350 MW and was developed by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL).

Simar Infrastructures is L1 for Singrauli boiler works

Simar Infrastructures Limited has emerged as the L1 bidder for Packages A and B covering boiler and auxiliary works for Stage III of the Singrauli Super Thermal Power Project. The company quoted Rs 1,389.1 million in response to a BHEL tender issued in December 2024.

The bid includes erection, commissioning, insulation, and other critical works for two 800 MW units. Termico Engineers & Erectors Pvt Ltd and Bhavani Erectors Pvt Ltd followed as L2 and L3 bidders with quotes of Rs 1,398.6 million and Rs 1,559.5 million, respectively. The work, once awarded, will span 960 days.

NTPC Limited is developing Stage III of the project in Shaktinagar, Sonebhadra district, Uttar Pradesh.

RVPR Constructions leads bid for Barauni civil package

RVPR Constructions Pvt Ltd has emerged as the L1 bidder for the wagon tippler civil works package at the Barauni Thermal Power Expansion Project in Bihar, quoting Rs 724.29 million. The tender was floated by NTPC in August 2024. Dhandu Infrastructure Pvt Ltd followed as L2 at Rs 768.55 million.

This expansion project, a joint venture between BSPGCL and NTPC, added two 250 MW units (Units 8 and 9) to the existing Barauni plant. Unit 8 began commercial operations in January 2018, followed by Unit 9 in November 2021.
