Telangana has approved the procurement of 3 GW of solar power over the next five years to support renewable energy integration and meet its Renewable Consumption Obligation under the Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy, 2025. The process will run through competitive bidding overseen by the Telangana Green Power Procurement Coordination Committee.

The state identified a large gap in its RCO trajectory. Analysis shows that Telangana needs another 12,000 MW of renewable capacity by 2030. The Vice Chairman and Managing Director of TGREDCO advised a phased plan to source 5000 MW of solar. The government cleared the first 3000 MW in this cycle. The aim is to secure dependable and affordable power, cut emissions, and align with broader energy commitments.

The procurement will unfold in three phases. The state plans to source 1000 MW by June 2026, another 1000 MW by December 2026, and the final 1000 MW by June 2027. TGREDCO will manage the bidding process through ISTS and InSTS routes. The agency will work with DISCOMs and will receive transaction support from SBI Capital Markets.

Senior officials from TGREDCO and the state DISCOMs will monitor progress. The order was issued in the name of the Governor of Telangana, and instructions have been shared with key power sector institutions for implementation.

The Telangana Rising 2047 vision targets net zero by 2047 and a USD 3 trillion economy. The state plans to add 20,000 MW of renewables by 2030 under Green Energy Policy 2.0. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said power demand could reach 1,39,310 MW by 2047. The plan covers transport, industry, agriculture, and waste. Public transport will shift to full electric use by 2030 with more than 2,000 electric buses and 6,000 charging stations. Agriculture and waste actions include solar pumps, methane reduction, and a ban on organic waste landfills from 2030. Waste to Wealth projects and a digital MRV system will guide MSMEs. The state aims to cut emissions by over 90 per cent and expand greenery cover to 50 per cent.
