MNRE clarifies ALMM exemptions for net billing and virtual metering models

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has clarified that net billing, virtual net metering, and group net metering will be treated at par with net metering under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II. Currently, ALMM List-II covers only solar modules. However, starting June 2026, it will also include solar cells. In its clarification, MNRE stated that virtual and group net metering involve either multiple consumers of the same category or…

MNRE clarifies ALMM norms for solar cells, defines rules for PID variants

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has released detailed clarifications on the inclusion of solar cells in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM). The guidelines define how product families and minor changes will be handled during the enlistment process. Solar cells with and without potential induced degradation (PID) resistance will be considered distinct product families and will be listed separately. Efficiency and wattage data collected during ALMM inspections will be used…

MNRE lowers efficiency thresholds for off-grid solar modules under ALMM

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has updated the approved list of models and manufacturers (ALMM), making it easier for low-wattage solar modules used in off-grid applications to qualify. The change applies to category-III off-grid systems such as solar lamps, street lights, and fans. These systems, with modules under 200 Wp capacity, will now require only 18 per cent minimum efficiency for enlistment. This applies to both crystalline-silicon (c-Si) and cadmium telluride (CdTe)…

MNRE updates ALMM, adds 1,541 MW solar capacity

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has updated its approved list of models and manufacturers (ALMM), increasing India’s total solar module manufacturing capacity under the list to 64.56 GW. The latest update includes two new manufacturers: Indosolar Limited, with an approved capacity of 1,525 MW, and Visaka Industries Limited, with 16 MW. Indosolar will produce bifacial mono-passivated emitter and rear contact (PERC) and bifacial tunnel oxide passivated contact solar modules. Telangana-based Visaka Industries…
