SUSI Partners to fund 860 MW battery energy storage portfolio in Chile
Swiss investment firm SUSI Partners has announced its agreement to fund the development of a significant battery energy storage portfolio in central-southern Chile through its SUSI Energy Transition Fund (SETF). The investment will support 22 battery energy storage projects, targeting a total capacity of 860 MW and up to 3.5 GWh.
This initiative marks an expansion of SUSI’s collaboration with local developer BIWO Renovables, further strengthening their ongoing partnership in Chile’s renewable energy sector. The majority of these projects are in advanced development stages, with construction expected to begin on the first project in the first half of 2025.
The move into standalone battery energy storage represents a strategic evolution for SUSI and BIWO, leveraging their combined expertise to enhance grid stability in Chile, which increasingly relies on intermittent renewable energy sources. This partnership also includes other renewable energy initiatives, such as distributed generation and utility-scale hybrid solar PV and battery storage projects.
SUSI’s investment underscores its ability to integrate energy transition expertise with local market knowledge, enabling it to capitalize on specific opportunities and rapidly deploy solutions in the energy transition landscape. In May 2023, SUSI further expanded its clean energy portfolio by acquiring a controlling stake in the American company Encore, which specializes in solar PV and battery storage solutions.
