Sterlite Power has announced the commissioning of the Nangalbibra─Bongaigaon Inter-State Power Transmission Project.
The project was implemented under a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process on a build, own, operate, and maintain (BOOM) basis. PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) was appointed as the bid process coordinator by the Ministry of Power (MoP) in September 2020.
The scope of the project includes the establishment of a new 220/132 kV substation at Nangalbibra, which involves the installation of two 220/132 kV, 160 MVA ICTs, as well as associated ICT bays and line bays. Additionally, two 220 kV bus reactor bays with a 245 kV, 31.5 MVAr rating have been included in the development. The project also required extensions at the Bongaigaon (POWERGRID) 400/220 kV GIS substation, where two GIS line bays were added for the termination of the Bongaigaon-Nangalbibra 400 kV D/c line, initially operated at 220 kV. Further extensions were made at the Hatsinghmari (Assam) and Ampati (Meghalaya) substations, where two 132 kV line bays were added at each location for the termination of the Hatsinghmari-Ampati 132 kV D/c line.
The Bongaigaon-Nangalbibra 400 kV D/c line and the Hatsinghmari-Ampati 132 kV D/c line are also part of the project scope. Sterlite Grid 26 Limited won the contract after the submission of bids for the project in 2021. The special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the project, Nangalbibra-Bongaigaon Transmission Limited, was transferred to Sterlite Grid 26 Limited on December 16, 2021. The project secured debt funding worth Rs 4.4 billion from Tata Cleantech Capital Limited.
This transmission project is an important milestone in enhancing the power transmission infrastructure in the region.
