The Southern Regional Power Committee (SRPC) has allocated 50 MW from the operational Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) Unit 1 to support startup activities for the upcoming KKNPP Units 3 and 4. This marks a key step in commissioning the new nuclear units.
In an order dated October 24, 2025, SRPC directed that the power be drawn from the unallocated quota of KKNPP Unit 1, effective from October 19, 2025, until further notice. The allocation follows approval from the Ministry of Power on September 2, 2024, and a request from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) on October 17, 2025, to supply power for charging the Common Station Auxiliary Transformer (CSAT) for Units 3 and 4.
The SRPC noted that beneficiaries must sign or extend Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and complete necessary commercial arrangements, including maintaining Letters of Credit (LC), for the allocated power.
