Sorigin RE Services wins 250 MW / 500 MWh BESS EPC order in Rajasthan

Sorigin RE Services, a Pune-based energy solutions firm, has secured its first standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) contract in Rajasthan. The project, awarded by an independent power producer, has a total capacity of 250 MW / 500 MWh.

The order comprises two installations of 125 MW / 250 MWh each at Giral and Suratgarh. Sorigin will execute end-to-end engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), including design, engineering, equipment supply, civil and electrical works, and commissioning.

Giral and Suratgarh are established energy hubs with existing thermal generation and rising solar and wind capacity. The addition of storage is aimed at addressing variability between generation and demand, improving grid stability, and enabling better integration of renewable energy.

Unlike co-located systems tied to a specific renewable project, standalone BESS operates independently and is dispatched based on grid requirements. Such projects typically involve higher technical and contractual requirements for EPC contractors.

The project aligns with India’s broader push to expand energy storage alongside renewable capacity growth. Policy efforts are underway to support BESS deployment as part of the 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity target by 2030 and the net-zero goal by 2070.

For Sorigin, the order marks entry into standalone storage EPC, a segment expected to see increased activity as grid operators integrate higher shares of renewable energy.
