SJVN Limited has issued a tender to develop 2 GW of energy storage capacity through pumped storage projects across India. The projects will be set up on a build-own-operate model and will provide eight hours of discharge, including up to five hours of continuous discharge.

The tender states that bidders will be responsible for the financing, development, design and engineering of the energy storage system. The scope also includes procurement, construction and commissioning. Developers will provide operation and maintenance services throughout the project’s life.

Bidders must build the transmission network up to the delivery point and connect the storage system to interstate or intrastate transmission systems. They will need to secure connectivity approval from the Central Transmission Utility of India (CTU).

The tender requires developers to arrange and acquire land for both the project and the CTU connection. They must obtain all statutory and non-statutory approvals, clearances, licences and no objection certificates needed for project development.

Bidders are required to submit an earnest money deposit of Rs 1.11 million per MW. Selected bidders must provide a performance bank guarantee of Rs 2.77 million and sign a 40-year power purchase agreement with SJVN. The bid submission deadline is 27 January 2026.
