Silicon Ranch’s Scotford Solar Farm achieves commercial operation in Alberta, Canada
Silicon Ranch, a leading independent power producer specializing in solar energy and related technologies, has announced that its 58-megawatt (MWAC) Scotford Solar Farm near Edmonton, Alberta, has reached commercial operation. This facility is the largest behind-the-meter solar project in Canada and will supply Shell’s Energy and Chemicals Park, Scotford with renewable energy, meeting approximately 20% of the refinery’s energy needs for the next 25 years and providing 100% of its electricity needs at peak capacity.
The Scotford Solar Farm marks Silicon Ranch’s first international solar project and the first large-scale solar facility installed in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. Silicon Ranch, founded in 2011 in Nashville, Tennessee, has been recognized for its pioneering work in delivering utility-scale projects across several southeastern U.S. states.
As with all its projects, Silicon Ranch will own, operate, and maintain the Scotford Solar Farm, highlighting its long-term commitment to the communities and partners it serves. The innovative behind-the-meter solution at Scotford is the first of its kind in Canada, offering a model that can be replicated by other energy and chemicals businesses seeking to support their operations with renewable energy.
