Sembcorp Green Infra (SGIPL), a unit of Sembcorp Industries, has secured a 150 MW solar project with a 300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). SGIPL has received the letter of award (LoA) for the project.

This marks Sembcorp’s first solar-BESS hybrid project in India, bringing its gross renewable capacity in the country to nearly six GW, including over two GW of greenfield projects won in 2024.

The build-own-operate project is part of SECI’s tender for two GW of inter-state transmission system (ISTS)–connected solar projects with four GWh of BESS. After the power purchase agreement (PPA) is signed, the BESS will deliver four hours of peak power daily for 25 years.

The project is expected to achieve commercial operation within 24 months of PPA signing. It will be funded through internal resources and debt. The addition also increases Sembcorp’s global renewables portfolio to 16.5 GW, including a 49 MW acquisition awaiting completion.
