SECI issues tender for 500 MW offshore wind project off Gujarat coast

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has issued a tender for the development of a 500 MW offshore wind project in the Gulf of Khambhat, Gujarat. Bids are due by 12 December, with pre-bid meetings scheduled for 22 October. The project has a completion deadline of 48 months.

The selected developer will build, own, and operate the wind farm, entering a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SECI. The renewable energy produced will be sold to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited. The project will span 202 square kilometres and connect to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS).

This project qualifies for Viable Gap Funding (VGF), part of a broader scheme approved by India, totalling USD 892 million, aimed at supporting offshore wind developments. India is also exploring the potential for an additional 14 GW of offshore wind capacity, with 22 GW available through unsolicited lease requests.
