SAEL Industries Ltd has commissioned a 1 GWp solar power project with 800 MW alternating current capacity at the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat. The project was developed through its subsidiaries, SAEL Solar P4 Private Limited and SAEL Solar P5 Private Limited.
The project will supply electricity under 25 year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), providing long term revenue visibility. The plant has been developed over around 3,600 acres near India’s western border. The company said the site posed engineering challenges due to saline soil conditions and seasonal flooding, with parts of the area submerged under close to one metre of water during peak monsoon periods.
The solar facility uses more than 1.5 million bifacial Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) solar modules. SAEL stated that over 60% of these modules were assembled at its own manufacturing units located in Punjab and Rajasthan, reflecting its vertically integrated project development and manufacturing model.
SAEL Industries operates across renewable energy segments including agricultural waste to energy, utility scale solar power generation, and solar module manufacturing. As of September 2025, the company reported a portfolio of 8,299.51 MWp of contracted and awarded solar capacity under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. Its manufacturing assets include 3,625 MW of TOPCon module assembly capacity and 164.9 MW of agri waste to energy capacity.
The company is also expanding its manufacturing base with an integrated facility under development in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The proposed unit is planned with 5 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity and 5 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity, aligned with India’s domestic manufacturing and renewable energy expansion objectives.
