Reliance Industries and Larsen and Toubro (L&T) have announced new investments totalling $13.5 billion. Digital Connexion, the joint venture of Reliance Industries, Brookfield and Digital Realty, has outlined an 11 billion dollar plan to develop a 1 GW data centre in Visakhapatnam over five years. L&T has announced a 2.5 billion dollar plan to build five data centres with a combined capacity of at least 300 MW. One of these facilities will also be located in Visakhapatnam.

These plans reinforce Visakhapatnam’s position as a data centre hub. More than 26 billion dollars is now committed to projects with a planned capacity of more than 2 GW by 2031. This surpasses the current national operational capacity of about 1.4 GW.

For Reliance, the project represents its first dedicated entry into the data centre market and supports its focus on AI infrastructure. L&T, which began commercial operations last December, aims to host 10 per cent of India’s data centre workloads within five years.
