REC Power Distribution Company Limited (REC PDCL) has transferred WRNES Talegaon Power Transmission Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), to Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL). The SPV will implement the Western Region Network Expansion Scheme to support pumped storage potential near Talegaon, Pune.

REC PDCL invited Request for Proposal (RFP) bids in October 2024 and acted as the bid process coordinator (BPC) for selecting a transmission service provider through tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB). AESL won the bid with a quote of Rs 16.6 billion and fixed transmission charges of Rs 2.21 billion. Competing bidders included Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) and Resonia Limited.

The project will be developed on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis through the WRNES Talegaon SPV. The scope includes design, engineering, procurement, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning.

A key component of the project is a 765/400 kV, 2×1,500 MVA gas-insulated substation (GIS) to be built near Kalamb. This substation will enhance green energy evacuation in the region. The project is expected to be commissioned by January 2027.
