Rajasthan launches India’s largest solar and battery storage project

Author: PPD Team Date: November 10, 2025

Rajasthan has launched the country’s largest integrated solar and battery storage project in the Pugal region of Bikaner, marking a major milestone in India’s renewable energy expansion. The Pugal Solar Park has been developed by Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) through its subsidiary, Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company.

The park will generate about 2,450 MW of solar power and include a 5,000 MWh (5 GWh) battery energy storage system (BESS). Spread over nearly 4,353 hectares of government-leased land, the project is structured under a plug-and-play model that offers developers pre-built infrastructure such as access roads, boundary walls, power evacuation systems, and ready grid connectivity.

Reportedly, the tender for the project will be issued on November 28, 2025 under a tariff-based competitive bidding process. The project is expected to draw investments in the range of Rs 6,000–18,000 crore and attract both domestic and international developers.

Successful bidders will sign 25-year power purchase agreements with Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Ltd, backed by an optional payment security mechanism. The park has been divided into two lots: 2,000 MW of solar with 1,020 MW/4,080 MWh BESS, and 450 MW of solar with 230 MW/920 MWh BESS. Allocation will take place through an e-reverse auction, with minimum bid sizes starting at 225 MW.

The initiative aligns with Rajasthan’s plan to position itself as a leading renewable energy hub and supports India’s national target of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030.
