Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has received a Letter of Award to develop a 150 MW/300 MWh standalone battery storage project in Andhra Pradesh.
POWERGRID informed through a regulatory filing that it has emerged as the successful bidder under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework. The project is part of a wider programme for the “Selection of Battery Energy Storage Developers for setting up of cumulative capacity of 2,000 MWh (1,000 MW x 2 hrs.) Standalone Battery Energy Storage System” at identified sub-stations of the Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTRANSCO).
The awarded project requires POWERGRID to install a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 150 MW/300 MWh at the 400/220 kV Sub-Station (SS) Kallikiri in Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh. The project will follow a Build Own Operate (BOO) model and is intended for on-demand grid support, contributing to system stability and reliability.
POWERGRID received the formal Letter of Award (LoA) on 29 December 2025. The project is part of a framework that uses Viability Gap Funding (VGF) through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF) to support essential grid infrastructure that requires financial assistance in its initial phase.
