Power Minister sets timelines for Pakaldul, Kiru and Kwar hydropower projects

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal visits the hydropower project in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, with NHPC and CVPP officials during a site inspection in January 2026.

Union Minister for Power, Manohar Lal, has directed that the Pakaldul 1,000 MW and Kiru 624 MW hydropower projects in Jammu and Kashmir be commissioned by December 2026, while the Kwar 540 MW project is to be completed by March 2028.

The directions were issued during the Minister’s visit to the Dulhasti Power Station in Kishtwar on 05 January 2026. The visit formed part of a two-day review of Chenab Valley hydropower projects being implemented by Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited, a joint venture involving NHPC.

During the visit, the Minister reviewed progress at the Pakaldul, Kiru and Kwar projects and held discussions with project heads and contractors.  

Earlier, on 01 January 2026, NHPC’s Chairman and Managing Director outlined the company’s vision for 2026 at a New Year programme held at the NHPC headquarters in Faridabad.
