Power Grid wins Sonbhadra pumped storage transmission project bid

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder for the “Transmission system for evacuation of power from Pumped Storage Projects in Sonbhadra District, Uttar Pradesh.” The Letter of Intent was issued to the company on September 4, 2025.
The project covers development of a 765/400 kV pooling sub-station, bay extension works at upcoming sub-stations, and related 765 kV transmission lines in Uttar Pradesh. It will be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer basis.
Robertsganj Power Transmission Limited has been formed as the special purpose vehicle for the project. REC Power Distribution Company Limited served as the bid process coordinator.
The selection followed the tariff-based competitive bidding route. REC PDCL invited Request for Proposal bids on April 21, 2025, to appoint a transmission service provider for the Sonbhadra project.
